SHERIDAN, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After not playing the Wyoming-Montana Basketball All-Star Series in 2020, the stars aligned in Sheridan on Friday to resume the friendly rivalry. The teams squared off at the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome on the campus of Sheridan College.

Montana swept the boys and girls matchups in 2019, and they lead the overall series for both the boys and girls.

The Wyoming girls were first up to try and turn the tide on Montana. This year’s girls squad was headlined by Douglas’ Allyson Fertig and her Douglas teammates Joslin Igo and Kamdynn Townsend. East also sent Cheyanna Alvarado and Emma Jacobsen.

The first half was all Montana, and they led going into the break 25-17.

Wyoming came out with a renewed sense of urgency in the second half. Allyson Fertig and Joslin Igo had 20 of their 22 points in the last-gasp. Fertig finishing with 16 points and Igo six.

Thunder Basin’s Gabby Drube also didn’t want to disappoint in the Cowboy State. She had nine of her 13 points in the second half including some strong drives to the basket and a long three.

The Wyoming girls held a three point lead with 1:51 left in the game after storming back, but they were held scoreless down the stretch and will be looking for revenge in Billings tomorrow after falling 55-52.

Wyoming’s boys tried to do what the girls couldn’t and win. They stormed out of the gate early and held a 2-point lead after the first quarter.

They were down 6 at half and as many as 12 in the fourth quarter, but that did not deter them. They were able to tie the game with less than a minute to go but could not retake their early lead.

The final score was 109-104 in favor of Montana. Both teams will be looking for revenge in Billings tomorrow evening at Lockwood High School.
