CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Friday, the Cheyenne Family YMCA held a ribbon-cutting event to ceremonially open its brand new sport court.

“We have a lot of members who come by and they work out inside and that’s great, it’s a great thing to do,” said Cheyenne Family YMCA Board President said Patrick Brady. “But, when we have this beautiful Cheyenne weather, why do you want to play basketball inside? Why do you want to play pickleball inside when you can do it outside and now we’re able to provide that to our members and I think they’re really excited about it.”

This was a moment that was over a year and a half in the making as COVID-19 kept pushing back the ceremonial grand opening of this new outdoor feature.

“We are just really excited to be kicking off our sport court that was a process that’s taken quite a long time,” said Cheyenne Family YMCA Patty Walters. “Shandra, our sports director, put the whole thing together, got the grant from [an] outfit called Kaboom, that is all about creating play space equity around the country.”

Ff you are a member of the Y and you want to play on the sport court, it’s run on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority going to those who sign up ahead of time.
