Recover Wyoming talks about the resources it provides to those in need
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Recover Wyoming was founded in 2010, the Recovery Community Organization focuses on helping those with addiction.
“We’re actually the only RCO in the state of Wyoming. We do a number of things but our main purpose is to help people find, get and stay in long term recovery from addiction,” said Recover Wyoming Executive Director, Lana Mahoney.
The nonprofit aims to give opportunities and resources to those struggling with addiction. Some of those opportunities include a safe space, information, referrals or even just having someone there to talk to.
In April, Recover Wyoming began a telephone support program, where people across the state can speak with peer specialists depending on their needs.
“Basically what that is, is a peer to peer program where we get referrals from around the state. We get referrals from treatment centers, jails or prisons, a number of places. What we do is we connect people with peer specialist, so those are people with personal lived experience with substance use and/or mental health who are now in recovery. We connect them with those folks and they contact the individuals on a weekly basis to do recovery check-ins. So it’s really about saying hey we’re here for you, what can we do to support you in recovery, and help to identify maybe some barriers to recovery and then to celebrate the successes they have.”
Mahoney said they’re excited about the program and the opportunities it will give those in need. The Recover Wyoming staff are also all in long term recovery.
“All of the staff here at Recover Wyoming is actually in long term recovery so it’s really meaningful for us to demonstrate that recovery is possible and that there’s 23 million Americans living in recovery and that recovery can be a reality for the people in our community as well.”
All of Recover Wyoming’s services are free, and anyone can give them a call or just stop into their downtown office.
Recover Wyoming’s phone number is (307)-421-7261 and is located at 122 W Lincolnway downtown.
