CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Community members came out to Oregon Trail Veteran’s Cemetary to observe Memorial Day. They hosted a ceremony to honor those who have served.

Travis Deti, the Chair of the Wyoming Veterans Commission, was the speaker at this ceremony. He said the three-day weekend is more than barbeques and furniture discounts. “All of it is fine and it’s American. We need to remember why and we need to remember those who have fallen so we can do these things,” Deti said.

Deti added that people should refrain from thanking active military members and first responders for their service today because today is a day for those who have passed.

After Deti’s speech, Cecil Barnes, A Korean War Veteran, was honored by the Natrona County United Veterans Council with a large plaque in the cemetery for his 44 years of service.
