CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - While the Kelly Walsh softball team did not get the outcome it had hoped at the state tournament, Kelly Walsh sophomore Kynlee Griffith was one of the standouts for the Trojans in Gillette. She dominated pitchers at the plate and hitters from the pitcher’s circle.

Those performances helped Griffith earn first-team all-conference and first-team all-state honors.

Despite all of the individual success this season, Griffith said in a postgame interview on Saturday about the season, “I’ll remember my teammates the most. We had five seniors on our team. I’m still a sophomore, and I love all of them.”

Griffith said she likes pitching the best because she “likes all eyes on her.”

In an opening round loss to Cheyenne Central, Griffith struck out 15 batters. She also struck out nine Cheyenne East hitters in a win in the circle to send the Trojans to that semifinal game.

She did not disappoint from the plate either, though. Griffith hit three home runs in Gillette over the weekend, including two in the semifinal game against Campbell County.

Griffith compared the feeling of running around the bases after a home run to a familiar high school feeling.

“Honestly, I’d compare it to like getting your driver’s license,” said Griffith. “Because you jack one, and then, you’re going and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’m free. I’m good.’ And that’s kind of how I felt when I first got my driver’s license.”

Griffith said she can still improve her fielding going into next season. Griffith will be a junior for next season’s Trojan team.
