CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper City Council approved community members to have open container nights from the weekend before Memorial Day until Labor Day. These will be happening Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in Downtown Casper and Old Yellowstone District from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters said the council approved this so community members can enjoy alcohol in the businesses in this area. People participating will wear wristbands to show they are old enough to drink. Community members aren’t allowed to bring their own alcohol.

This was passed last year and not many people attended. McPheeters said it was passed in the middle of the pandemic and that could be a reason why. This year the Casper Police Department doesn’t know what to expect but could see a crowd coming through.

“In our opinion, there’s some pent-up excitement in our community. We wouldn’t be surprised if we saw good participation this year,” McPheeters said.
