Memorial Day remembered by five special ladies
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -On Memorial Day, we honor the fallen soldiers who have died protecting our freedom and liberties, but this year it almost didn’t happen.
As family members of veterans and veterans themselves, Cheryl Shannon, Becky Poch, Pam Moran, Bonnie Orr and Lona Souza know honoring this day sits a little different when you’ve lost a loved one to war.
When COVID-19 shut down everything in 2020, celebrations and days of recognition stopped too. They reached out to the company that usually organizes the wreath-laying ceremony but were informed there would be no ceremony this year.
So these five ladies took it upon themselves to do something about it.
The organization permitted them to coordinate the event, and in two weeks, they pulled a proper ceremony together.
Dividing their list of almost 200 members, they got organized and moving. As a 20-year Air Force veteran to Cheryl this day matters.
The Memorial Day five ladies want to welcome everyone to get involved and sign up to participate in this year’s memorial services.
Organizations or individuals who would like to place wreaths can contact Cheryl at 761-1695 or Becky 631-6536.
The Memorial Day ceremony will be Monday, May 31, at 11 am at the Beth El Cemetery.
