Jefferson Award winner revealed
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Jefferson Award honors individuals that go above and beyond for their communities, and a panel of judges chooses four finalists each year.
If you have not met this year’s finalists, check out their stories here.
This year’s winner is Miamie Sleep for her dedication to fighting teen homelessness in Natrona County. Sleep has started boys’ and girls’ homes for teens in the Casper area.
She said it was “a huge honor” to be recognized for her contributions to the community with the Jefferson Award.
“I feel that young people shouldn’t have to worry about where they’re going to sleep or being homeless,” said Sleep in an interview at the KCWY studios. “Being a kid and being homeless is bad.”
Sleep thanked her husband and her family. She also didn’t hesitate to thank her friends and board of directors. “It literally takes a village and to continue. I’d like to thank everybody for all of the help and support.”
Congratulations to all of this year’s finalists, and thank you for making our community a better place to be. All of this year’s finalists will be honored at a special luncheon on September 7.
