Roles now reversed for Central Girls Soccer stars heading into Regionals
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The 2021 Central Girls Soccer team was supposed to be headlined by two Division I talents.
Eliza Grace Smith will play soccer at the University of Wyoming next year, and Zoë Lam will play at the University of Texas-San Antonio.
After being out all season, Eliza Grace finally returned to the pitch last week.
“For me, considering that I haven’t had a season really, we don’t go home really like we win. That’s all,” said Eliza Grace Smith when asked about this week’s Regional Tournament. “[There’s] really no other choice at least in my head and I know that’s in the girl’s mindset too.”
Unfortunately, Zoë is now out for the rest of the year with an injury, and, with roles reversed, the seniors look ahead to the Regional Playoffs.
“[I’ll help by] just mentally keep the girls in a positive position, because I know these games can be stressful for everybody, including the seniors,” said Zoë Lam. “So as long as we stay calm mentally and I can help with that’s, that’s all that we really need.”
The Regional Tournament is designed in a “Win or Go Home” format. A win in your first game, and you are automatically into the state tournament. Lose, and your season is over. Therefore, with a win over South on Thursday, the Lady Indians would clinch a state tournament berth and advance to state seeding/later round regional tournament games. The Tribe is aiming to make it into its fifth consecutive state tournament, dating back to 2016.
