LARAMIE, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) - The University Store is celebrating its 100th year serving the University of Wyoming campus.

A number of celebratory events are planned this year, including an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony during Laramie Jubilee Days this summer, and a fashion show and Homecoming celebration in the fall.

The store was established as the University Book Store in 1921 and originally housed in the Arts Building just north and east of Old Main. Services provided by the Book Store quickly grew to include school and office supplies, snacks and greeting cards.

The Arts Building originally was where the Biological and Physical Sciences buildings are now located.

By 1960, the Book Store had outgrown its space in the Arts Building and relocated to the newly constructed Ross Hall, occupying the space that is now Rendezvous Cafe. When the Wyoming Union was expanded in 1973, the Book Store moved to its current location, where it serves the campus with textbooks and course materials, art and lab supplies, UW-licensed gifts and apparel, commencement regalia and office supplies, along with being an Apple authorized campus store.

To reflect this broad range of services it provides, the store -- rebranded in 2013 -- is now the University Store.

“The University Store is proud of our legacy serving University of Wyoming students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans through the years,” University Store Manager Misty Eaton says. “We’re honored to be a part of the UW community, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent service into the next century.”

The University Store encourages people to submit their memories of the store.

“If you have photos of the University Store in its previous locations, or photos of your favorite clothing items from the store, you can share them with us,” Eaton says.

To submit memories or photos, email uwyostore-mktg@uwyo.edu or share on social media and tag the store using the hashtag @uwyostore on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.
