Prep Athlete of the Week: Sid Cashin
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - When you need them the most, your leaders are supposed to deliver.
That’s exactly what East Boys Soccer Senior Center Back Sid Cashin did on Friday against Campbell County, and he has been named Wyoming News Now’s Prep Athlete of the Week.
In what has been a tough season for the T-Birds (1-8 record coming into Friday), the team finally won its second game and recorded its first multi-goal game of 2021 on Friday.
Sid Cashin was one of the heroes of the match, scoring the game-tying goal via a free kick that soared over 150 feet (kicked from the approximately 41-yard line) through the air to make it 2-2.
“It was good to see a kid like that, who’s put in quite a bit of time and effort, get rewarded for that, in terms of getting a goal and then putting our team in a position to win a game,” said East Boys Soccer Head Coach James Cameron.
And East did win the game. After Cashin scored, the final 26 minutes of regulation were scoreless and the game required overtime. But a costly Campbell County foul in the box gave Carlos Moreno the chance to give the T-Birds the lead with a penalty kick. Moreno converted and East went on to win the game 3-2 after holding the Camels scoreless for the more than 14 final minutes of overtime.
That sequence was all made possible because of Cashin’s score. It was also the first varsity soccer goal of the senior’s career.
“I don’t know man. That was something else,” said Prep Athlete of the Week Sid Cashin. “[It was] special and what’s really awesome is my family was there to see it and [I] had some family members watching at home. It was awesome. It was something I won’t forget.”
Originally from Stowe, Vermont, Cashin plans to spend his next four years at the University of Wyoming.
Congratulations to Sid Cashin, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
