1838 Rendezvous site seeing increased usage, please report any vandalism
RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
The 1838 Rendezvous Association has announced their dates for this year’s events, and the schedule is full. The association hopes the increased use of the historic site will preserve it for years to come.
They’re hoping this year’s 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous will be bigger than ever and they’re also doing their best to incorporate this historic site by offering it to home schoolers, local school districts, as well as cross country runners.
Booshway for 2021, Dave “He-Who” Lehto stated, “We’re looking forward to a bigger rendezvous this year. We’re supposed to have (about) 200 camps this year.”
A small rendezvous is also taking place April 30th, and all Fremont County home schoolers are welcome. Another educational event will be for local 4th grade students on May 25th. “We’ve got kind of a busy schedule this year. We look forward to a lot more usage of the site so that we can keep our preservation going on,” Lehto added.
This year the main rendezvous is set for June 30th through July 4th, with early camp setup on June 26th. However, it’s not only rendezvous’ that the site is used for. People enjoy walking their dogs, taking a nature walk, and even running for some.
“I know the cross country team, they love this site, they love running down here and we like having them,” emphasized Lehto.
The 1838 Rendezvous Association is serious about teaching and welcoming the public and students in, to learn more about the history and primitive lifestyle.
“It’s kind of neat to see the growth that we’ve had. We’ve had some ups and downs but I think it’s coming back around, and I’m kind of excited,” Lehto added.
There was recently some vandalism at the rendezvous site, and if you see any vandalism in the area, please contact the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department.
