CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -The Cheyenne Department of Veterans Affairs is celebrating Earth Day by planting 32 trees donated by Lowes and the Laramie Conservation District.

The trees will be planted as a memorial for veterans who have died of Co-Vid and suicide over the course of the pandemic.

The trees will be planted along the facility and become part of a shelterbelt established nearly 100 years ago.

The Cheyenne V.A. has actively participated in environmental practices, by producing 90 to 95% of their power on-site. They incorporate solar panels to produce their own electricity and heat.

“Somewhat of a remembrance tree, that’s kind of the idea behind this. Each one of the trees will have a rock eventually that has a name on it, where family can come.”

Sam House - Public Affairs Officer for the CHeynne V.A.
