Cheyenne Police Department authorized to apply for grant to fund D.U.I. command vehicles
The Department can apply for Highway Safety Program, Grant Funding for the City’s Mobile D.U.I. Command Vehicle.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Per the last Cheyenne city council session in March of 2021. A resolution was adopted that authorized CPD to apply for a grant that would help fund their DUI command vehicles.
This comes as the department has seen an increasing rise in arrests that are alcohol related. In order to properly and efficiently address these concerns and make timely arrests. The department will apply for the grant money to fund their statewide efforts in protecting the community from such dangerous and reckless actions.
As a reference, according to data provided by WASCOP (Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police)
- In 2019, alcohol was involved in 41% of all Statewide arrests 27% being DUI’s.
- The percentage of DUI arrests increases slightly each year
- DUI’s made up 19% of all custodial arrests in Cheyenne and Laramie County
- Alcohol-involved arrests continue to be the drug most often present in situations that result in someone going to jail in Wyoming
CPD will be applying for the grant in the near future.
