Casper Pride announces funds to positively impact the Casper trans community
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper Pride announced funds available to the community to help trans members feel more welcome. Wyoming News Now met with Mallory Pollock, the Casper Pride board chair, and explains what it is.
What is the trans project?
“It will provide financial support in the community who has an idea for positively impacting our transgender populations. You don’t have to be transgender to apply it’s open to anyone who has an idea and can pull it off,” Pollock said.
Will this be a way to incorporate trans members and make them feel more welcome?
“We conducted some focus groups about a year ago and we had different age groups of the gay and lesbian population, but our trans group really stood out as the one that’s still fighting for the right to their job and housing,” Pollock said.
What can people do with this money?
“People could apply for a project just to have dinner once a month. If we just want to meet up and find a safe space for that. We are hoping if we put the funds in the community’s hands they can create a healthier, stronger trans community,” Pollock said.
She added they have received generous donations and are excited to get started. Casper pride is planned for June 9 through June 13.
