CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Release) - The Wyoming Energy Authority announced today the release of the Guide to Permitting Solar Energy Projects in Wyoming. This guide was developed in partnership with the state’s Renewable Energy Coordinating Committee member organizations and serves as a resource for solar energy developers that outlines the different permitting processes and key considerations for building commercial solar energy projects in Wyoming.

This guide aims to help developers navigate local, state, and federal regulatory and permitting processes, and provides contact information and references to assist in the development of solar facilities in the state.

“Wyoming has multiple levels of land ownership and an array of considerations and permitting requirements for developers looking to deploy commercial energy projects,” said Dr. Glen Murrell, WEA’s Executive Director. “This guide aims to highlight the necessary processes for successful projects to complete as well as provide considerations and agency contacts to ensure a smooth progression of development that takes into account many of the factors that are important to Wyomingites.”

Wyoming permitted its first commercial solar facility in 2019 and the state has seen increased interest from developers.

The guide addresses four main topics of importance pertaining to developing solar facilities in the state of Wyoming: Site Selection, Local Permitting, State Permitting, and Federal Permitting.

The full guide can be accessed on Wyoming Energy Authority’s website under the Reports tab.
