Prep Athlete of the Week: Zoë Lam
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne Central Girls Soccer Senior Captain Zoë Lam is Wyoming News Now’s first 2021 spring sports Prep Athlete of the Week.
On Thursday, Zoë was moved from the midfield to forward position and scored her first goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Cheyenne East.
With last season canceled, it was the first Cheyenne high school soccer goal since 2019.
In addition to her career at Central, Zoë has also had a successful club career as well.
That experience pushed her into an elite recruiting echelon and Lam will play her college soccer at The University of Texas at San Antonio next year.
Zoë said that she realized the fit was perfect once she visited UTSA’s campus for the first time.
“You really have to have that family atmosphere, or else you’re not going to feel like you’re home,” said Zoë Lam. “And so, the coach really developed a good place for me to feel like I was home away from home.”
At Central, Head Girls Soccer Coach Jeff Norman has a unique opportunity. He gets to coach two Division I seniors at the same time.
In addition to Zoë, teammate Eliza Grace Smith will play Division I soccer at the University of Wyoming .
“It’s fun and exciting and neat for me to see them grow from [barely teenagers] to now these legal adults that get to move on and to have been a small part of that growth,” said Norman.
Congratulations and good luck at the next level to Zoë Lam, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
