CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne Animal Shelter said feral cats are pretty common in the Cheyenne area. People usually do not bother to vaccinate or fix them so they reproduce at a fast rate.

Dr. Tessha Winsch of the Animal Shelter said they charge only $40 to vaccinate and spay/neuter outside cats.

She said it really is a problem, especially during “kitten season” in the summer months where near 300-500 kittens are born locally.

“It really makes difference. So number one if these cats are left unchecked producing that many cats every year, it can have a huge impact on our environment, on our wildlife, on the birds, and just as being a public nuisance. It also can be a very challenging life for a cat that is considered to be a pet that is no longer a pet,” said Winsch.

Community Cats will have the tip of the ear cut off to signify that they are already vaccinated and fixed.
