CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The soccer season is officially here after last weekend’s blizzard put things on hold with all practices canceled and games called off.

“It was definitely boring,” said East Girls Soccer Senior Kora Williams. “It hurt us, we need to be in shape and that kind of pushed us out of it, but this week it’s nice to be back.”

Still, despite feeling behind, the Lady T-Birds are just happy to be on the pitch again after the pandemic wiped out the 2020 season.

“I think the kids just miss soccer and then obviously with the snow storm, it hampered them again, because it seemed like a repeat [of last year] because all of a sudden we weren’t in school and it was around same time [that the pandemic affected us last year],” said East Head Coach Rebecca Valdez. “So this week, when our facilities came out and cleared the snow, they were so excited yesterday just to be on the pitch.”

Regular season play begins on Thursday. East hosts Central at Okie-Blanchard Stadium at 4 p.m.

“Everybody’s super excited and has good attitudes when we’re out here because they know how much we missed, even the younger girls,” said East Girls Soccer Senior Ruby Jacobsen. “And so we’re all playing like the season can end anytime or we could get quarantined. So everybody’s really happy and enjoying each other.”
