CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It may not feel like it, but the spring sports season is here.

The Cheyenne East Boys Soccer team was deeply affected by last year’s COVID-19 cancellations.

The T-Birds had 18 seniors ready to take a shot at the state title, therefore this years team is unexperienced.

“We’ll probably have three kids that have ever touched a varsity field play varsity soccer this year,” said East Head Coach Ryan Cameron. “The last time that they did that, they were sophomores in high school, and now that they’re seniors in high school.”

Still, there is an air of excitement as East will play its first high school soccer game since 2019.

“We had a lot of off time since we didn’t have last year,” said East Senior Isaac Rich. “So I’ve just been working with the ball, trying to get as many touches as I can, become better as a player and hopefully that can show for my senior year.”

East hosts Central on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Okie-Blanchard Stadium.

“I’m super excited. It’s good to be back just because we had to take off a year,” said Mason Paskett. “It’s good to see a lot of new faces that are out. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
