Dubois PTA and area youth to honor veterans with display at National Museum of Military Vehicles
DUBOIS, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
The Dubois Parent Teacher Association was inspired by a veteran memorial in Florida and hope to institute a similar one in Fremont county with students building cross memorials for those past and present in the armed forces.
President of the Dubois PTA, Melissa Claar-Reed stated, “Right now we have 11 kids signed up to help us build the crosses throughout. Most of them are students of PTA members at this point in time. We didn’t imagine it would be of the scale that it’s becoming, so we may have to reach out to some other organizations that have offered us help.”
Once finished, the crosses will be displayed at the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois. The group has made several prototypes to make sure they will hold up to the Wyoming wind. The PTA president said they thought this inaugural year they might receive orders for 50 to 75 crosses, but they are almost at that number and they only started the memorial project ten days ago.
“Once we go through this process of building these crosses and they’re able to really understand that each cross represents a person that sacrificed for this country for their freedom, that they’ll take some stock in that. Especially when we have them on display and they’re walking through, and take some pride and some honor in the people that fought for this country to defend their freedoms they have today,” emphasized Claar-Reed.
