CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper VA clinic has helped 45 percent of veterans in town get their COVID-19 vaccine and they are hoping to do more.

Last month, they got 1,000 extra doses and held mass clinics in Casper, Sheridan and Gillette. The clinic isn’t expecting any more extra doses, at the Casper clinic, there will be chances to get a Moderna vaccine every two weeks.

Kelly Moran, the Pharmacy chief, said when appointments are missed the shot goes to waste, but that hasn’t been a big issue. “We are able to get veterans in if we have a cancellation,” Moran said.

She adds they’ve experienced some skepticism about the vaccine since they’ve started giving it out, but some people change their minds. “One man left the clinic before he got his vaccine. I was able to talk to him on the phone about his concerns and some benefits of getting vaccinated now. He actually came back and got it,” Moran said.

It’s rewarding to Moran to help give vaccines and information. “When you talk to a veteran about their concerns and you’re able to go through the information and possibly alleviate some of the concerns, they can make a decision whether it’s right for them,” Moran said.

Due to their limited supply, they are giving them to vulnerable patients.

Here is a list of their clinic schedule:

Afton: 3/31

Casper: 4/15, 4/29, 5/13, 5/27

Cody: 4/20

Gillette: 4/6
