Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming to open a Riverton location in August pending enough funds
RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming have ten clubs currently open and they are working on the 11th. The club will open in Riverton in August if funding goals are met.
Jessica Baxter, Vice President of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming said it’s been years in the making. Baxter stated, “For years, (we) had folks who would contact us a couple times a year and ask about starting a Boys and Girls Club in Riverton. In 2018, things just kind of started to line up. We actually went over to Riverton, my CEO Ashley Bright and I, and just held some public meetings, talking about what does Riverton need?”
There has been strong support for the club and although the amount needed for opening is $185,000, a third of those funds have already been met.
Fremont County School District 25 agreed to hold the club at Rendezvous Elementary School, and it will be for Kindergarten through 5th grade when it first opens.
“At the Club we believe that we’re raising the next generation of leaders, so everything we do is done with intentionality from our programming, to the relationships that are made, the timing of the club itself. We’re open over summer, we’re open over spring break, Christmas break, after school. We really want to meet the needs of the community, meet the needs of the families and the kiddos.”
A free breakfast with donations appreciated will be held April 27th at the Fremont County Fairgrounds to raise funds for the club. The keynote speaker will be former Major League pitcher--Dave Dravecky, sharing his inspiring life story.
