Prep Team of the Week: Central Boys Basketball
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After winning their 26th boys basketball state championship in program history, the Central Indians are Wyoming News Now’s Prep Team of the Week.
The Tribe ran roughshod over its competition in Casper this weekend.
Central won its first state tournament game 67-46 over Rock Springs and then reached the state title game with a 67-45 win over Sheridan.
The Indians then beat Thunder Basin 55-40 to win the 2021 State Championship.
“It’s kind of just like a dream come true,” said Central Senior Brady Storebo. “That’s just what you want and we got it.”
It was not any easy road for the Tribe.
The 2019-2020 squad lost just one game in the regular season, but a bad two-day stretch with losses to East and Thunder Basin in the Regional Tournament sent Central packing before the eventually canceled state tournament was even scheduled to start.
“The hardships we went through strengthened us and allowed us to win a state championship,” said Central Senior Brock Storebo.
The most impressive performance of the state championship came from Nathanial Talich.
The junior scored 24 points, but was still very humble.
“[My teammates] did most of the work and I got to give all of them credit for it,” said Talich. “We all played great in that game.”
The Indians made sure to make the story of last year’s struggles ancient history. They are now Southeast, East, and State Champions and that can never be taken away.
“It meant everything. Obviously it’s the main goal that we’ve been working for all year, [the] past four years [we’ve] been trying to get here. It feels great to actually to get here and win it.”
Congratulations to the Central Indians, 2021 State Champs and Wyoming News Now Prep Team of the Week.
