A Few Showers Remain Before Sunshine Returns Ahead of the Weekend
March 16th, 2021
We got more than our fair share of snow this weekend, and most of us are continuing to dig our way out of the heavy and wet mess. We still are not out of the woods with snow yet, however. Heavy snowfall in Northeast Wyoming this morning has led to the closure of I-90 between Gillette and Buffalo, and I-25 remains closed from Casper to Wellington CO. I-80 remains closed from Nebraska to Rawlins WB and across all of Wyoming EB thanks to Rolling Closures.
Throughout the rest of the afternoon scattered showers will push southward from Central and Northern Wyoming, and some may last into the overnight hours. A few straggling showers may hang around early in SE Wyoming to start of St. Patrick’s Day, but by lunchtime the sunshine should begin to return in Casper and potentially by dinnertime in Cheyenne. It should stick with the state the rest of the week after that to finish off winter as temperatures climb into the 50s by Saturday for many across the state.
Looking ahead into the weekend, conditions will be warm to start off spring, however some snow showers are possible Saturday night and into Sunday. The European Model is hinting at another snowstorm impacting Eastern and Central Wyoming from the south much like the one we just had (though not as much), however the American Global Forecasting System (GFS) does not agree and thinks things will be clear heading into the start of next week.
