RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The 4A Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments begins on Friday.

On the boys side, Riverton is in search of a big upset.

The Wolverines (13-8) clinched their first spot in the state playoffs since 2016 by defeating Natrona County 65-47 in round one of regionals.

Riverton then won the 4A Northwest Quadrant Title with a 43-41 victory over Rock Springs, before falling to Star Valley 45-44 in the 4A West Championship game the next day.

That set up the #2W Wolverines first round state playoff date with #3E Sheridan, who lost a shocker to #2E Thunder Basin in the 4A Northeast Quadrant Title game before beating #4E East in a state seeding game.

The Broncs boast a (19-5) record and held the state’s number one seed for multiple weeks of the season.

Therefore, despite holding a higher seed, Riverton is not the favorite.

“Our main key is to out work them, is to be the scrappy underdogs,” said Riverton Senior Aquilo Friday. “Everyone is overlooking us so we’re just going to try our best to stick with them.”

The Broncs and Wolverines tip off at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Casper College.
