LAS VEGAS, Nev. (UW RELEASE) - The Wyoming Cowboys face top-seeded San Diego State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament on Thursday at 1 p.m. MT. Wyoming is fresh off a 111-80 win over San Jose State in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday. The contest against the Aztecs can be seen on CBS Sports Network.

Fans can watch, listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on The contest will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Reece Monaco will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.

About The Teams

Wyoming heads into the tournament quarterfinals with a 14-10 overall record after scoring a season-best 111 points against San Jose State in the opener. The Pokes are scoring 77 points per night and are allowing 75.8. The Cowboys are shooting 45 percent from the field for the season and lead the conference with 239 three pointers. Wyoming shot a season-high in the tournament opener and scored a tournament record 59 points in the first half.

The Aztecs head into the contest ranked No. 19 in the nation. San Diego State is the winner of 11-straight contests and won the MW regular season title. SDSU averages 74.4 points per game on the season and are one of the top defensive teams in the nation allowing only 60.1 points per game. The Aztecs are holding opponents to 39 percent from the field for the season.

About The Players

The Cowboys are led by freshman Marcus Williams, as he was named MW Freshman of the Year by the Conference coaches and media. He averaged 14.9 points per game on the season. He also added 4.3 assists per game with a career-high 10 against SJSU. Junior Hunter Maldonado was named Honorable Mention All-MW by the coaches and media. He is second on the Pokes in scoring this season at 12.5 points per game. He lead the Cowboys in rebounds this season at 6.9 per game,. He ranked third in the conference in assists per game at 4.6.

Matt Mitchell was named the Mountain West Player of the Year and a first-team All-Mountain West performer. Jordan Schakel is a second-team All-Mountain West selection and Nathan Mensah is an honorable mention All-Mountain West honoree. In addition, Mitchell and Mensah are members of the Mountain West All-Defensive Team and head coach Brian Dutcher was the Mountain West Coach of the Year Award winner.

About The Series

Wyoming trails the all-time series against the Aztecs 41-46 in a series that dates back to 1979, San Diego State has won nine of the last 10 meetings, but the Cowboys did win the last neutral site contest downing the Aztecs in the Championship game of the MW tournament by a score of 45-43 in 2015.
