CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Wednesday, Mayor Patrick Collins named Mark Francisco as the new Chief of Police for the Cheyenne Police Department. After 30 years with the Kansas City Police Department, Francisco will be taking over in the next month or before April 1 according to the press release.

Francisco said his interest for the position came because he’s always wanted to be a police chief, and he felt the size of Cheyenne and its police force was a perfect fit.

“I was looking for the size of a department that would allow me to get to know everyone and be really connected to the community, and it just so happens that I love Wyoming. I’ve been there many times over the years, from my teenage years to my own family as I became an adult.”

Francisco and Collins played phone tag for a few hours on the day he was offered the position, and Francisco was at home when he received the call.

“My wife was standing in the living room looking at me and I gave her the thumbs up, and I said oh that’s fantastic I’m so happy to hear that. It was a thrilling moment for sure.”

Francisco said when it comes to building relationships with Cheyenne PD, he will be coming into his position with an open mind.

“I look at it as my main mission to come in there and learn the people, learn the culture, learn the Cheyenne way of doing law enforcement and just hopefully bring my experience to bare and tweak whatever improvements we need to make, but just to really immerse myself in what’s going on there already and become part of the team.”

When it comes to the community, Francisco said he will be seeking output immediately from residents and looks forward joining the Cheyenne community.
