CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Laramie County School District One’s Board of Trustees continued its Superintendent search Tuesday night. The third candidate to interview was a familiar face, David Bartlett, who currently is the Assistant Superintendent for Support Operations for the school district.

Bartlett has been in his current position for the last 12 years and with LCSD1 for 17 years. He was asked right off the bat by Laramie County Community College President, Dr. Joe Schaffer, after all his time with the school district, why now?

“What I would tell you is I’ve always believed Laramie One has the ability to hold to that gold standard in everything they do, and I think this is an opportunity for me to move in and help lead all three divisions in the district to reach that gold standard.”

LCSD1 Parent Advisory Committee Chairman, Scott Archer, then asked Bartlett how the school district can value the amount of diversity it has at all three levels. Bartlett responded saying it’s something they’ve been working on for the last few years.

“What it means to me is that we’re going to celebrate, and make sure our students and our staff celebrate the differences of our students and our families, and you do that through establishing strong relationships, and that culture starts at the top.”

Bartlett also emphasized the importance of listening to students, parents and the community.

“We may believe we know where we want the district to go, or we may believe we think we know what the community or the parents want, we need to talk to them and more importantly, we need to listen.”

For Bartlett’s first 90 days if he is chosen as the new Superintendent, he said it’d be important to him to be visible to everyone in the school district, while also starting to work on its strategic plan.

“I would tell you my first 90 days would involve a lot of listening and a lot of dialogue. That first 90 days is developing a plan for the next 12 months and over the course of the next 12 months is when that strategic planning process happens.”

Bartlett closed out the forum saying becoming Superintendent would give him the opportunity to give back to Cheyenne, which has given him and his family so much. He also said even if he is not chosen, he looks forward to continuing to be a part of LCSD1.

The final interview for the Superintendent of Schools position will be Thursday night with Dr. Margaret Crespo. Dr. Crespo is currently the Area Superintendent, Southwest, for the Boulder Valley School District in Colorado.
