CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With the current winter conditions, it’s important to be aware of road conditions. The city of Casper is warning people to be cautious on the road, and it is encouraged to say off the road, if possible.

The city will still be managing road conditions and doing its best to keep them safe.

Shad Rodgers, Casper’s streets and traffic manager, said we aren’t going to see ice on the roads melt as quickly as we’re used to. “Unfortunately, with these sub-zero temperatures that we’re having right now, we’re not going to get the kind of melting effect that we would in a storm that’s say 20 to 30 degrees with snow on it and packed roads,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers said the deicer the city uses can not melt ice and snow at temperatures below zero.

The new color of deicer the city is using is blue, and it is similar to the previous one chemically but cheaper and more environmentally friendly. The previous deicer the city used was red.
