A Cold, Wintry Holiday Weekend

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the areas in the pink; including Jackson, Afton, Sierra Madre Mountains, and the Snowy Mountains. The Winter Storm Warning in the western part of the state will expire Saturday at 11PM. This region will see accumulations amounts from 12-23 inches of fresh powder! The Sierra Madre and the Snowy Mountains will have the storm warning sticking around until Sunday at 11AM with 9-21 inches expected. Great new powder for snowboarding or skiing over the weekend, just make sure to bundle up! Winter Storm Warnings span parts of the region including; Converse, Niobrara, Platte, Goshen, and into the panhandle of Nebraska. This storm warning will expire Sunday at 5AM. Winter Weather Advisories for the areas in purple will expire Sunday at 11AM including Laramie, Albany and Carbon. This area will be seeing 2-4 inches with gusts up at 35mph. However the thing to watch is if it snow constantly Saturday in these locations the advisories will be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. The areas in the light blue color is under a Wind Chill Advisory until Monday at 11AM, this now includes Cheyenne. Wind chill values will be between -30ºF to -45ºF over the next five days. Make sure to bundle up as you head outdoors, bring pets indoors, check on the elderly, and if you are traveling have a emergency travel kit handy!

Snow showers are expected across the region for the next 2 days. The first wave of moisture will be from the north and the second wave from the south. Casper should expect 2-3 inches of snow accumulations until Sunday morning, but this amount could change depending on where the heaviest snow band is located. Cheyenne should expect a 3-4 inches of snow through Sunday morning. Some areas will experience white out conditions during the next several days so make sure to take it slow on the road ways!

The holiday weekend will be messy for anyone traveling. Snow showers are expected to be more widespread for Saturday events with temperatures below getting above 0 degrees across the state and lows in the double digits below 0. Sunday will beat all the other days with temperatures only topping out in the negative digits! Cheyenne will top out at 3 below as well as Casper will be cold at 3 below.
