CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If community members in Casper, Rawlins or Rocks Springs are having symptoms of COVID-19, they can get a rapid COVID-19 test at Cedar’s Health.

Michela Sanders, a Casper office manager, said they can get results fast because it doesn’t have to go to a lab.

“Ours is detecting the antigen which is the proteins found in the virus,” Sanders said. She added that the test seen at Wyoming Medical Center detects the genetic material of the virus causing the difference between the two tests.

She added no test is completely accurate. “Our tests are about 88 percent effective,” Sanders said.

Cedar’s Health’s Casper location has a drive-through where community members can get a test without leaving their car. People shouldn’t come into the clinic if they need a test.

Officials take a nose swab, put it in a reagent for 15 seconds, then put it on an analyzing device where the results come in 15 minutes.

Sanders said there are more false negatives. “We always tell people if they are negative but they are having symptoms that they should watch them and get tested again if they get worse,” Sanders said. “They should come back and get tested with us or try a different test if that makes them more comfortable.”

Sanders adds it’s rewarding to be able to provide this service to the community during these tough times.

Cedar’s Health is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They take all insurance plans.
