Prep Athlete of the Week: Nathanial Talich
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Nathanial Talich is Wyoming News Now’s first February 2021 Prep Athlete of the Week
When the lights were brightest last week, the junior shined.
Talich’s Central Boys Basketball team defeated archrival East 57-40 on Friday.
The guard scored 17 points, which was the margin of victory. He also added four rebounds and four assists.
Those stats are impressive, but they are not what he is most proud of.
“[I was happiest with my] defense. I don’t know, my family is a defensive family,” Talich said. “My dad played defense in Wyoming for four years and now I just like defense.”
Nathanial’s father, Cory Talich, was a linebacker at UW in the early 1990s.
In the Central-East game, Nathanial helped limit 2020 All-State Selection Graedyn Buell to 14 points.
That’s great considering the East point guard was averaging 24.8 points per game coming into Friday’s match up.
“[Talich’s] been known for his blue collar toughness and his defense and I thought he played a great game [defensively] but he turned around and hit some big shots for us and made some big plays for us and he proved that he’s one of the elite guards in the state,” Central Head Coach Tagg Lain said.
Nathanial said that after high school he would like to play basketball at the next level.
After that, though, he would like to run a taxidermy store in Wyoming.
Nathanial is an avid outdoorsman who has been hunting since he was a little kid.
Good luck and congratulations to Nathanial Talich, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
