Kelly Walsh Swim Team prepares for states
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
In just a few shorts weeks, the boy’s state swimming and diving competition will be taking place in Laramie, and as we are in the final month of the season, the Kelly Walsh swim team is taking it day by day in hopes to finish the season out strong.
“One of our big team goals, we get better everyday. Really focusing on the process has made a huge impact on how they approach the meets mentally, and how they improved,” said Bridger Miller KW Swim Coach. “I am really really excited and we just go into championships, we keep it light, it’s fun, the works been done and all there is left to do is go hard.”
The Kelly Walsh boys swim team have seen much success already this season. They have 18 state qualifiers and 13 seniors on the team.
“Having 13 seniors has been awesome, the younger guys have role models to look up to everyday, and the team has kind of cultivated itself into the culture that it is,” said Miller.
“I’ve seen things that I haven’t seen on all four years of the team with like friendships, and we work hard together, and we work hard as a team, instead of so much individually, because this sports is really individual, and it is easy to get caught up in individual times and stuff but it is a lot easier to perform well, if we are working as a team,” said senior Braden Lougee.
Lougee recently set a new pool record on his senior night.
“I think the pool record has sorta been something that has been on my mind and it is a cool thing to put my name up on the board but really we just want to get better. We are just a team with a team mentality, and we work really hard and those guys, I may have broken the record but those guys are the reason I broke those records.”
The boys will be competing in Laramie this weekend.
