The Casper College Men’s Basketball team have officially returned to the hardwood for the 2021 season, but with COVID-19 still impacting the sports world, immensely, there comes some challenges with the season like starting later than usually, and fans having to watch the games virtually.
“You know you have to create your own energy, be consistent with your energy on the bench, on the floor, you know, the guys need to be excited for the fact that it is just a normal game, but obviously not have the fans there makes that a big challenge,” said head coach of the men’s basketball team Shaun Gutting.
Another challenge is how they started months later, then their regular seasons usually starts.
“Not being able to do anything consistently first semester, really obviously hurt the development and team stuff we would’ve spent time working on in a normal year, so having to pick up like we are starting over fresh and new on Jan. 4th and get ready for games that are coming two-three weeks later was not easy,” said Gutting.
But no matter the start date, the athletes and coaches are excited to be back out on the court.
“You know realizing that hey, there are a lot of things to life then what we are doing here, but at the same time this is something that can help change lives for these young athletes, and men so I think the stand point of just being out there and trying to return to having a normalcy where your getting to enjoy basketball again is a really special feeling,” said Gutting.
The Thunderbirds have a home game on Jan. 28. For fans not able to attended you can watch at their YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb3DHh28nv3LmxO20UKdDsw
