CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A teen in Cheyenne is doing what he can to make sure someone who cared from him when he needed it most, lives her best life.
Aaron Barbee has a close relationship with his aunt Samantha. In 2018 Samantha was diagnosed with Breast Cancer she underwent chemo treatments and the cancer was gone until this year. She found out her cancer came back, but this time in her lungs and a more aggressive form, doctors said she had a limited time left.
She had a bucket list to visit Hawaii and Aaron is making sure she can live her dreams.
“When we talk she says all these things she wants to do, she wants to go to Hawaii, she wants to pay her medical bills.” Aaron said.
Aaron started a fundraiser for his aunt this month, when we spoke, he had raised about $1,300 on Facebook then he created a Gofundme.
“The point of the fundraiser,” Aaron said, “Is to be there for her like she was for him when he was struggling.”
He set a goal to raise $10,000, so his aunt and her immediate family can go to Hawaii. They plan to have the remaining funds for her medical bills and her young children.
With covid-19 Aaron says his aunt hasn’t been able to do much, so making her happy, when they know they don’t have much time left, is giving him motivation.
“Giving her that, you know, little bit of happiness within the limited time left,” Aaron said, “She can be like I did this before I pass, you know, we could think that we tried to do the best we can for her.”
Aaron is keeping the bucket list fundraiser up until March, that is when he plans to visit Samantha in Tennessee to present her with what he raised.
