The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department receives glove donations
The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department had a call with Cheyenne’s elected officials, where they stressed about not having enough PPE to distribute vaccines when they are available to the general public.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Since a new City Council and Mayor have been sworn in, in Cheyenne, they have remained busy.
The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department had a call with Cheyenne’s elected officials, where the health department stressed they may not having enough PPE to distribute vaccines when they are available to the general public.
City Councilman Richard Johnson, Ward III, came up with the idea to hold a fundraiser for the health department to get nitrile gloves donated. He didn’t have a set amount and came up with a goal of 10,000 pairs. Johnson reached out to Mayor Collins and asked if Collins could contact someone at the Chamber of Commerce to see if there were any CARES ACT funds available for the donation.
When Mayor Collins reached out to the Chamber of Commerce, they then reached out to the State Department of Health, who happened to have 10,000 pairs of gloves on hand to donate to the county health department.
Mayor Collins said “The health department is here to keep us safe, they’ve been really proactive in getting those things taken care of. So, really, I am pleased with the partnership.”
Even though the fundraiser has met its goal Johnson says keep on donating, “One box delivered is better than no box delivered, and so even with 10,000 pairs we are still gonna be in need.” Johnson continued, “We are basically preparing for advanced, when we go to general population for vaccinations.”
If you are wanting to donate you can drop gloves off at the health department in Cheyenne the address is 100 Central Ave 82007.
