CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Update 7:12 am Saturday, January 16 | Around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, the City of Cheyenne said fire crews had cleared the scene. Here’s the message from the city “Fire has been fully extinguished. Crews now leaving site (6pm MT).”

Update 9:45 am | Cheyenne Police called in a fire at 12:47 am Friday morning at the Hitching Post Inn. Five minutes later, Cheyenne Fire Rescue was on scene.

Response by firefighters is defensive only, because the building is condemned. This mean that they are not sending firefighters in until it’s safe.

Cheyenne Fire Rescue called for additional help around 2 am Friday morning. Other agencies that responded inclue Laramie County Fire District 1 and 2, Air National Guard, FE Warren, Cheyenne Police, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, AMR, EMA, Salvation Army and Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power. Two city buses were used to keep people warm, and a sand truck was brought in for ice.

There were two firefighter slip injuries because of ice, however no other injuries have been reported.

Firefighters are expected to be on scene for several more hours. Currently the cause of the fire is unknown.

Update 8:25 a.m. | We’re still trying to find out more details from the fire, but we did confirm that the Salvation Army showed up to the fire to help the firefighters warm up while on scene. Lieutenant Mistie Lamb, with the Salvation Army said they got the call to help around 2:00 a.m. Once they got to the fire, they had coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and hot dogs for the firefighters. She said it was very cold outside and that firefighters were coming over with their gear frozen. She said the Salvation Army had to leave around 6:30 a.m. because the lines in their truck ended up freezing.

Update 7:20 a.m. | We have reached out to the City of Cheyenne’s Public Information Officer for more details after talking with CFR headquarters again this morning. Again, we’ll update you with information as we find out more.

Updated 4:34 a.m. January 15 | Cheyenne Police are now asking people to avoid the area of West Lincolnway because of reduced visibility. The PD confirmed it is the Hitching Post Inn that is on fire in their post.
