After 22 years of service, United Way of Laramie County’s Executive Director will retire in March
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After a local career in retail and leading the Special Friends of Cheyenne, Connie Sloan-Cathcart got involved with the United Way of Laramie County as a volunteer. She then became involved with it’s marketing department, which led to her applying to be its Executive Director. Now 22 years later, Sloan-Cathcart will be retiring, but not before sharing what an honor it’s been to serve the Laramie County community.
“It’s been such a fortunate place to be and such an honor to be a part of it. I always say it’s such a joyful place to be, we’re helping people find their way to give back and connecting them to what matters to them, and what matters to our community. So yes it’s just been a lovely place to work the majority of my career,” said Sloan-Cathcart.
When it comes to some of her favorite memories, she said there are many that come to mind. Some of which include the food truck rallies and Halloween costume drives. But what she really enjoyed was working with the people who helped bring the ideas to life.
“Helping to create the new things, to get community schools together and how folks really came together to figure out what was the next best thing. Working with the school district, to figure out which schools to work in, building all those relationships,” she said.
Sloan-Cathcart said the last 22 years have been wonderful, and she takes pride in having the chance to serve the community.
“Having a sense of purpose has always been important to me, and really feeling like it’s a personal mission as well as a community mission, and helping other people feel like they’re part of something great, it is very rewarding,” she said.
Sloan-Cathcart also spoke about the countless friendships she’s made over the years, and said she’s excited about the future of the United Way of Laramie County. Her last day will be March 15, and as for what’s next, she said she’ll enjoy taking some time off.
