CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is waiting to distribute Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation funds until after their computer system is fixed.

Ty Stockton, WDWS communications manager, said they are waiting to give out funds because they want their system to be accurate. “If we give you unemployment insurance benefits and it turns out you didn’t qualify for them you’re going to have to pay it back. We want to avoid that,” Stockton said.

Stockton explains that PEUC funds are “unemployment insurance benefits for those who continue to encounter barriers to reemployment.”

They are reprogramming the system so they know who qualifies for these benefits.

This unemployment funding is for people who don’t qualify for the normal unemployment funds. For example, if someone is self-employed. “We are trying to make sure people who normally wouldn’t qualify for unemployment insurance get some help at this time when they desperately need it,” Stockton said.

People can apply for PEUC, but they don’t know exactly when the funds will be available.
