CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Big Brothers Big sisters bigs and littles are celebrating national mentoring month. Bigs and littles said meeting together was a highlight for them during the ups and downs of 2020.

Mentors say it’s been rewarding to be another support system for these kids. “It’s been challenging during COVID but it helps keep grounded and keep going. It’s also nice to hear about what’s going on in someone else’s life,” said Amber Pollock a Big Brothers Big sisters mentor.

Volunteers can sign up as a single person or as a couple. Nick Dohm, a volunteer said, volunteering helped him get out into the community.

“I was new to Casper. [Volunteering] got me to get out to see more stuff in the community,” Dohm said. Mentors are paired with kids who share similar interests. Kids say they love to bake, go to movies, and hang out and talk. Michele Lloyd, a volunteer, said she loves meeting with her little sister.

“I think during such a hard year and just having someone you can connect with and have someone for some extra support,” Lloyd said.

Parents can sign their kids up for a mentor anytime and they are hoping more community members sign up to volunteer.
