CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Events Center opened its door in 1982, and it has gone by that name ever since. On Tuesday, Casper Mayor Steve Freel announced a new name for the Center during a press conference.

“It is my honor to declare this the Ford Wyoming Center,” said Freel. He also mentioned his excitement about what the new name will be able to do it for the local economy and the Center.

The Ford Wyoming Center name comes as a part of a six-year deal with Your Local Ford Stores, and the first three years of the deal are guaranteed.

Greiner Ford General Manager Bob Dixon said this is a “huge deal” and hopes that this “brings money back into the system.”

“You know, when you have a year that all of the events are canceled, we need to support the local community,” said Dixon. “We need to support Casper, and we need to support this events center.”

Brad Murphy, the general manager of the newly named Ford Wyoming Center, called it a “monumental day” and said this deal had been “years in the making.”

“Just a great day for our building,” said Murphy. “This is about moving forward and continuing this process and continuing to make this like we said the center of Wyoming’s entertainment.”

Murphy also mentioned that having a recognizable brand like Ford will give the city and the center credibility with other major sponsors and performers.

The first event at the newly named Ford Wyoming Center will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16. “Get CENTERED at the Center” will feature an hour of yoga and a small tradeshow for health and wellness-related vendors.
