Sports Year in Review: Cheyenne East
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming News Now’s final Sports Year in Review heads to the East Side of Cheyenne.
Of all the teams in our Year in Review series, the T-Birds basketball program was the most effected by COVID-19 in the winter season.
Both teams qualified for the state tournament before it was canceled at the pandemic’s onset.
It is important to remember that at one point the fall season was very much in doubt.
It took a lot of planning in the summer and flexibility once the time to play arrived in the fall.
“We had to work pretty hard as ADs and working with [Central AD] Chad [Whitworth] and [South AD] Mark [Puev] is pretty easy,” East Athletic Director Jerry Schlabs said. “Those guys, they’re good people and they’re good guys and it makes it easy and we work well together. And we all had the same goal and that was to give our coaches and kids opportunities to play.”
