Sports Year in Review: Cheyenne Central
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The year began like any other. Winter sports were in full swing and state champions were crowned in most of those sports.
Then the pandemic hit and the world has not been the same.
Frustration and sadness would be an understatement as the basketball state tournaments were canceled.
The spring sports season would not be played either.
But the summer was used to get ready for the fall season and it was a success for the Indians and the rest of Wyoming.
Every fall sport started as planned and ended with a state championship.
“We have a group of seniors from last year who didn’t get that opportunity [to compete for a state title],” Central Athletic Director Chad Whitworth said. “When I think about the fall, and the fact that they did get through it -- and I think to the seniors, who maybe you have a senior who’s a one sport athlete and only does a fall sport --they got to have a senior season and I think that’s the most important thing.”
