Prep Athlete of the Week: Blaise Ronnau
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Blake Ronnau has been named Wyoming News Now’s Athlete of the Week.
Ronnau is a Cheyenne East senior that wrestles in the 170 pound weight class and is undefeated this season.
Including forfeits, Blaise is (10-0) with three pins to begin the year.
Two of those victories came in very impressive fashion.
Two weekends ago, Blaise moved up to the 182 pound weight class and defeated Sidney (NE)’s Derek Robb, who is the top-ranked wrestler for that weight in Nebraska’s Class B.
Then as an encore, the senior wrestled and defeated Gering (NE)’s Jacob Awiszus who is the number two 170-pound wrestler in Nebraska’s Class B.
The senior is clearly off to a fantastic start this season and he owes it to preparation.
“I went out there every day, every morning before work and I would be drilling with one of my friends,” Ronnau said. “Also, getting in the wrestling room, having great partners, having a good coach.”
Blaise would wake up at 6:30 in the morning to train before working as a delivery driver at Menards, which took a work ethnic not all high schoolers can say they have.
“[Blaise is a] very very motivated individual with everything that he does,” East Head Coach Thad Trujillo said. “He’s a guy that I know is gonna show up every day and work as hard as he can no matter what. So, it’s fun to coach those kind of athletes.”
The young man clearly understands the value of hard work and for that he will continue his wresting career at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas
Congratulations to Blaise Ronnau, Wyoming News Now’s Prep Athlete of the Week.
