CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

Happy first day of Winter! Tonight temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s across the region with mostly clear skies and breezy conditions. Tomorrow a cold front will sweep through the state bringing colder temperatures, very windy conditions, and some snow!

The state is in the Christmas spirit lit up like a Christmas Tree with watches, warnings and advisories. A Winter Weather Advisories is in effect for parts of Crook and Weston Counties until Wednesday at 8AM. A High Wind Watch is in effect for parts of Platte, Carbon, Albany, and Laramie Counties until Tuesday at 6PM. A High Wind Watch is in effect for the areas in the darker yellow shade until Wednesday at 5PM. The main take away from the cold front will be temperatures drop dramatically into Wednesday, travel hazards are possible with slick roads, roads being shut down because of high winds, and blowing snow. The questions about this system is the snow fall amounts the models are not agreeing with amounts as one short term model shows Casper getting nothing, but a long term model shows Casper getting 3 inches. No matter the snow amount receive it will cause a headache for individuals traveling for the holiday! Depending on where the heaviest snow bands form will overachieve the amounts forecasted.

The cold front will come from the northwest bringing in snow to western part of the state first. The good news is this will bring fresh powder for the holiday to go snowboarding or skiing the mountains making for an awesome day to hit the slopes. The snow will continue to move southeastward throughout the Tuesday and into the evening and overnight hours. Most places will be lucky to see a dusting to an inch for lower elevations as higher elevations could see several inches.

Make sure to hold to your hat over the next week! Winds will be howling over the next several days with gusts up to 70mph possible and sustain winds ranging from 30-40mph. With this system Wednesday’s high temperatures will make you want to stay cuddled under a blanket near the fire place with a cup of hot chocolate as temperatures will not make it above freezing. Wind chill values will be between 5 above to 15 below.
