CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - As Christmas and New Year’s approach, the Cheyenne Police Department wants to remind the community to drive safely.

“We want to remind people to have a plan before they’re going out. Make sure that you have a designated driver and make sure that that driver is 100 percent committed to getting you home safely,” said CPD public information officer, Alexandra Farkas.

CPD is always aware of potential impaired drivers around any holiday and this time of year is no different. Farkas said when you drive impaired, you are not only putting yourself at risk, but all drivers on the road.

CPD is also encouraging the community to report anyone they might believe to be driving impaired by calling their dispatch line. Farkas said the holiday season can also be a stressful time for many, and the community should also be patient as they are driving in general.

“Especially this year, the pandemic has been such a difficult time for people that we’re gonna see even more of that as people are driving. So just to be aware of that, to slow down, to really make thoughtful decisions before getting behind the wheel,” said Farkas.
