Snow is in the Way
Wednesday, December 9
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
A cold front will be entering the state tonight bringing colder temperatures to start off Thursday. This front will be bringing snow as well. The timing is not exact yet, but the models are showing some isolated snow showers Thursday afternoon. By Thursday evening into the overnight hours more moisture will be lifting from the south bringing snow to most of the state.
In terms of snowfall amounts the models are all over the place and not agreeing at all. Some are showing Cheyenne receiving an inch of snow while other models hint at 5+ inches before the system is out of the area. However, with this system we know temperatures will drop dramatically to seasonable temperatures for the month of December and that it will bring in moisture to the state. The questions that remain are the total snowfall amounts and the timing of when the snow will start to fall. These will be the things we keep an eye on the next several days as more information comes out. Depending on where the heaviest snow bands forms, which models can not predict, will mean the totals forecast will overachieve in this area just like they did back in October in Cheyenne when they received 15 inches. Colorado looks to be receiving most of the brunt of the storm; however, wherever the cut of low moves will determine who will receive the most snow.
By this weekend road conditions will become a probably as snow will make the roads wet and slippery, and the winds will start to pick up which will cause blowing snow resulting in reduced visibility. Make sure to stay weather aware the next several days and into the weekend especially if you have travel plans.
