Casper PD educates about scam callers
Casper PD has seen an uptick of reports about scam callers, and they give you some help to identify them.
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - You’ve probably received a call about a car warranty or a credit card that you’ve never heard of. Those are scam callers trying to take something.
The Casper Police Department has seen an uptick in reports about scam callers, and they expect an increase of them each year around the holidays.
Some ways to identify scam callers are if they request a payment over the phone, ask for personal information like a Social Security Number, or claim to be a law enforcement official. These are all red flags.
Casper Police Department Public Information Officer Rebekah Ladd said a good rule to live by is to not answer a call if you don’t know the number. “Chances are if you don’t know the number, let it go to voicemail. If it’s someone that you want to call back, you can certainly do so.”
Ladd also said it was important to talk to vulnerable adults that may not be aware of scam calls. People are always welcome to make the Casper Police Department aware of scam calls by reporting them.
