CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming Department of Education is working on forming a literacy team to bridge possible learning gaps from when schools closed in the spring.

Jillian Balow, Wyoming Superintendent, said the state wants to get kids caught up if they fell behind and keep moving forward to reach important milestones.

“One of the most important milestones in a child’s life is reading proficiently by third grade,” Balow said. She added that they want to keep kids and families safe during the pandemic.

This grant will be distributed to schools so they can implement research-based training for teachers.

“That will be one of the requirements of this grant is making sure our schools are teaching scientifically based reading,” Balow said.
